Safety

StudentHood is being designed with reporting, blocking, privacy controls and clear community standards as core product features.

Controls

  • Block or report another account.
  • Report Scenes, Pings, Hangs, Crews and Gigs where applicable.
  • Control who can Ping you and interact with your content.
  • Keep message notifications inside Ping rather than mixing them into Drops.

Under-18 accounts

StudentHood applies a teen safety mode to users under 18 where accounts are legally permitted. Teen mode excludes adult or explicit content, applies stronger privacy and safety defaults, and pauses app access from 7:00 PM until 7:00 AM in the account’s saved local time zone. Country-specific minimum-age and guardian-consent rules take priority over the general under-18 policy.

Private by default

Under-18 profiles are private by default. Precise location is not exposed, personalized advertising is disabled, and recommendation systems use a teen-safe mode. Adult accounts cannot discover an under-18 profile unless the users are already approved Peeps.

Safer messaging

Under-18 accounts can only receive new Pings from approved mutual connections called Peeps. This helps prevent unsolicited private messages from strangers and keeps message activity inside Ping rather than Drops.

Guardian approval

Where local rules require it, StudentHood pauses activation until a parent or legal guardian approves the account. The guardian approval page shows only limited context needed for informed consent, such as the young person’s first name, age group and region, together with the youth-safety protections applied to the account. It does not expose the young person’s full date of birth, email address, school or campus, city, messages, Scenes or precise location.

Age assurance

Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple authenticate an account, but they do not prove that the person holding the device is the account owner. StudentHood therefore keeps its own private DOB and may also use privacy-preserving age-range signals supplied by iOS or Google Play where available. If StudentHood DOB and a platform age signal disagree, StudentHood applies the younger, safer category until the discrepancy is resolved. A Google or Apple account reporting 18+ never by itself unlocks adult-classified content. Adult-classified access requires a separate person-level age assurance result.

Emergencies

StudentHood is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the relevant local emergency service.

Beta safety notice: StudentHood is actively testing privacy, blocking, reporting, age-related eligibility and guardian safeguards. If something does not work as expected, please report the issue. Do not use the beta for emergencies.
